Party at the Platform: What’s hot this weekend

The Downtown Streetcar will celebrate a milestone with the unveiling of the first streetcar stop at 16th and Main from 4-6 p.m. Friday.

The Downtown Streetcar will be in party mode with its Party at the Platform event on Friday. The celebration marks a wild and fun weekend ahead in Downtown. Here’s the highlight reel of what’s happening in Downtown from Friday to Wednesday, April 24-29:

14th Street Wine Walk, a benefit for Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City returns to Downtown from 2-6 p.m. Saturday at the Power & Light District.

Brand Newpresented by 96.5 The Buzz, featuring Circa Survive and The Weaks, will rock this city at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland.

The Cat in the Hat celebrates Dr. Seuss and his classic tale through Sunday, May 17 at The Coterie.

Central Library will present Powers of Two: Finding the Essence of Innovation in Creative Pairs, as writer Joshua Wolf Shenk discusses his new book about the rewards of one-to-one collaboration at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (April 29) at the Central Library. RSVP here!

Savion Glover and his ensemble will light up the Kauffman Center on Saturday.

Danilo Perez: Panama 500 will have Downtown swinging – as part of the Folly Jazz Series – at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Folly Theater.

Home Free, season 4 champion’s of NBC’s The Sing-Off, will weave their country a cappella magic at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Folly Theater.

Neil Diamond returns to Downtown with Sweet Caroline, Crackling Rosie and his hit parade at 8 p.m. Sunday at Sprint Center.

NPP All Star Quartet, featuring Donald Brown, piano; Ray Drummond, bass; Marvin “Smitty” Smith, drums; and Bobby Watson, saxophone, will have the Blue Room smokin’ hot at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the American Jazz Museum.

Sticky Traps, presented by the Kansas City Rep, opens Saturday at the Copaken Stage.

Tosca – love and the ultimate double-cross – presented by the Lyric Opera, continues its triumphant run through Sunday at the Muriel Kauffman Theatre in the Kauffman Center.

Tour de Compadresfeaturing Ben Rector, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, and Colony House, will kick-off the 2015 concert series Grinder’s at 7 p.m. Saturday at CrossroadsKC.

What They Did for Love features the sounds of the 1960s and ’70s cinema take center stage in this groovy tribute to Marvin Hamlisch and Burt Bacharach now through May 17 at the Quality Hill Playhouse.
