Introducing Keystone Sessions: A weekly networking event for the innovation, education and entrepreneurship community

,

“If you’re someone who’s interested in new ideas, or finding out about the newest tech or industry trends, and interacting with others who are also interested, where do you go in KC?” asks Kevin McGinnis, founder of the Keystone Innovation District.

Until today, there hasn’t been an answer to this question. For the innovation community, there’s no single hub or weekly event where those interested in new ideas can gather in a casual setting to listen to speakers, engage with panels, and meet one-on-one with leaders in the community.

“In other cities across the country, meet-ups like this are happening every week,” continues McGinnis. “We want Sessions to be part of the fabric of our community – an event where people know they can just show up and have their minds stretched by any number of topics.”

Keystone Sessions is a weekly live program and meetup for the innovation, education and entrepreneurship communities in KC. Keystone Sessions will create impactful and inclusive pathways to collaboration and collective learning. Sessions will occur every Wednesday from 4-8 at Keystone CoLAB, 800 east 18th Street, with an hour at the beginning for networking.

During the event, Keystone will feature three 45-minute “sessions” on a wide range of topics that are not specifically related to each other. “This is designed to create a collision of ideas – which is often how innovation is sparked,” says McGinnis. “Oh, and did I mention free beer?”

About Keystone Innovation District

The Keystone Innovation District is the front door to innovation in Kansas City.

At the intersection of design, infrastructure and innovation, Keystone brings together regional universities, philanthropic leaders, corporations and entrepreneurs with the goal of planning, developing and operating a diverse and thriving innovation community in downtown Kansas City.

Our core, fundamental belief is that innovation is no longer siloed in industry verticals. Today’s technological advances require a cyber-physical connection, especially as we innovate the nation’s infrastructure.  With design as the unifying idea across programming, partnerships and initiatives, Keystone takes a broad view of infrastructure – from the services required to run a functional society to the products needed for daily life. Whether it’s designing smarter cities, building better products, shaping the future of work, or any other challenge the community commits to attack, Keystone aims to advance the regional goals of shared prosperity, and accelerate economic opportunities for all in the KC-area.

With the first location at 800 East 18th Street – Keystone CoLAB – Keystone is centered between the Historic 18th and Vine Cultural District to the east, the Crossroads Arts District to the west, Hospital Hill to the south and Downtown to the north. Keystone Innovation District will be more than just a “place,” rather it will be the home to a community where all are welcome to join with universities, corporate partners and entrepreneurs to design the future.
