Common Grounds: Meeting Downtown Where It Happens

Common Grounds: Meeting Downtown Where It Happens

By Jay James, Membership, Events and Development Coordinator at Downtown Council of Kansas City

At the Downtown Council, we believe the best conversations do not always happen in boardrooms. Sometimes they happen over a cup of coffee, around a shared table, or right in the neighborhoods that make downtown what it is. That belief inspired Common Grounds, our quarterly, informal community gathering designed to bring the Downtown Council into the community and invite the community into the conversation.

Join Us!

Join us at Café Corazón, 110 Southwest Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM for this upcoming gathering.

Common Grounds is about showing up, listening, and creating space for honest dialogue. These meetings are intentionally casual and welcoming, giving residents, business owners, stakeholders, and partners the opportunity to connect directly with the Downtown Council in a relaxed setting. There are no podiums and no formal presentations, just meaningful conversation about the present and future of downtown.

Each Common Grounds meeting creates an open forum to talk about all things downtown, from economic development and public safety to mobility, placemaking, small business support, and overall quality of life. It is a chance to share what is working, raise concerns, ask questions, and exchange ideas with others who care deeply about downtown’s success.

By hosting these gatherings in neighborhood coffee shops and community spaces, we reinforce our commitment to accessibility, transparency, and relationship building. Downtown thrives when voices from across the community are heard, valued, and reflected in the work we do.

Whether you are a longtime downtown advocate or simply curious about what is happening in the heart of the city, Common Grounds is for you. We look forward to seeing you on common ground, coffee in hand, ideas flowing, and conversations moving downtown forward.
