CID Ambassadors turn in an All Star performance

Safety Ambassadors hand out water near the DCID Kiosk in front of Municipal Auditorium at 13th and Central Streets

As thousands of baseball fans and Kansas City visitors poured into Downtown from July 6-10 for the Major League Baseball Fan Fest, Community Improvement District (CID) Ambassadors were on the front lines of greeting our guests and providing clean, safe and welcoming services.

CID Ambassadors worked day and night for those five days to keep Downtown streets and sidewalks clean, visitors safe and everyone feel welcomed. In addition, the Ambassadors were greeted as heroes as they handed out free, cold water throughout the five days and particularly last Saturday when temperatures reached a record 105 degrees.

The Downtown Council, in partnership with the City of Kansas City and the Convention and Visitors Association, acquired 100 cases — 24,000 bottles of water — to give out to steamy, but appreciative visitors.

Mark Rowlands, director of the Downtown and River Market CIDs, expressed his appreciation and for the long hours and steamy weather conditions that his Ambassadors faced for five days.

“The CID staff really stepped up to help make this event a great experience for everyone,” Rowlands said. “Jeff Tubbs (the CID operations manager) the supervisors and all the Ambassadors hit it out of the park on this one.”

In addition to their daily clean and safe duties, the Ambassadors focused their talents and energy on four essential All Star jobs:

  • Distribution of water at 13th & Wyandotte and 18th & Vine, PLUS on board all five trolleys that circulated throughout Downtown daily from 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
  • Greeters at all four trolley stops in the River Market, Central Business District and at 18th & Vine
  • Information center outside of the Bartle Hall entrance to the Fan Fest. Ambassadors were armed with information about the free trolleys, walking tours of Downtown, ATA buses to Kauffman Stadium, and comprehensive lists of Downtown area restaurants, bars, shops, attractions and museums.
  • Resource officers for the Community Watch Parties at 18th & Vine and the Power & Light District.

We would appreciate your emails to express your experience with the Ambassadors during All Star Week, or any day or night in Downtown.
