Buck O’Neil Bridge Project – New Closures Sep. 16 -20

Crews will be completing bridge work as part of the Buck O’Neil Bridge replacement that will require the following closures. Motorists will need to seek alternate routes during these times. All work is weather permitting.

Friday, Sept. 16

  • Beginning at 9 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.

Saturday, Sept. 17

  • Beginning at 6 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 12 p.m. for bridge work

Monday, Sept. 19 and Tuesday, Sept. 20

  • Beginning at 9 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.

The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River. It serves as a critical regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short-term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
