All Aboard for Art: Live Performances Take Over the KC Streetcar

,

Announcing the Art Ride event is on September 23

All are welcome to hop on board as the KC Streetcar transforms into a moving stage on Wednesday, September 23.

From 6 to 7 p.m., riders can experience live performances, music, poetry and interactive art aboard KC Streetcar 805, the Art in the Loop Streetcar featuring Evening Flight, an original artwork by local artist Ramona Clif when Art in the Loop and KC Streetcar team up for the annual Art Ride.

The evening begins at the UMKC Streetcar Stop at 51st Street and Brookside Boulevard. Riders who want to experience the full Art Ride are encouraged to arrive before 6 p.m. and board the streetcar for one complete loop along the KC Streetcar’s 6.5-mile route, traveling north to the Riverfront before returning to the UMKC stop. The event is free and open to the public, though attendees are encouraged to RSVP for planning purposes.

The Art Ride will feature:

  • HeadHunterz, a performance collective of spoken word and poetic artists
  • Beth Watts Nelson, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist
  • A Girl &, a social practice activation designed to engage riders along the journey

The Art Ride offers a unique opportunity to experience Kansas City through a different lens — combining public art, live performance and the everyday experience of riding the streetcar. The Art Ride is part of the annual summer-long Art in the Loop program of visual and performing arts and is a collaboration between Art in the Loop and KC Streetcar, which transforms a streetcar into a platform for creativity and public art.
