Landscape ambassadors from the Downtown and River Market Community Improvement Districts stand ready to assist property owners and managers with beautifying the sidewalks and tree wells outside of their buildings.

Downtown KC is experiencing its “spring” season of revival. New construction is popping out of the ground, and abandoned or underused buildings are coming back to life. Literally, every day, more and more people are walking the city’s sidewalks, as they make their way home from work to run errands, to shop or to enjoy a performance.

The Downtown and River Market Community Improvement Districts (CIDs) are using this opportunity to invite Downtown and River Market property owners/managers to join them in a new program designed to make the community more walkable and beautiful.

Tree Well Adoption Program

The CIDs, in partnership with the City of Kansas City, MO, are spearheading an effort to encourage business owners and property managers to invest in the beautification of the front entrances and create a welcoming “front door” for customers, passers-by or visitors.

By adopting a tree well(s), you can take an active role in demonstrating to your tenants, clients and customers that you care about your building and the greater Downtown community.

“We have designed the program, so your team can have fun designing, personalizing, planting and caring for your tree well(s),” said Santos Ramirez, director of the CIDs. “Its only limit is what you can imagine.”

To get started, simply identify the tree wells that you would like to adopt and maintain within the Central Business Business District and/or the River Market. The CIDs will provide resources and guidelines for planting and nurturing, as well as with recognition of your efforts in our social media and with a customized plaque.
