Recycled Art is set to unfold on Friday

A special exhibit featuring recycled materials that have been reborn as art will go on display Friday at The Box Gallery, 1000 Walnut St. in the Commerce Bank Arcade.

The exhibit, Allan Winkler: Recycled Art opens Friday and will remain on display through Feb. 22. The public is invited to two, free opening receptions from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Friday.

Winkler, a Kansas City based artist and musician, is well known in local art circles. In this show, he reveals a hidden beauty in cardboard boxes, beer cans, household objects, metal pipes and old clothes, then injects then new life. This exhibit focuses on work created from found and discarded materials recycled in unexpected ways. At first, his technique and materials appear unsophisticated, but Winkler’s talent for transforming our everyday world into something magical.

The Box Gallery is free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays. Free parking validation is available at the nearby Commerce Bank security office.
